P.T.A Executives Unhappy Over Challenges Facing School Feeding Programme In The Talensi And Nabdam Districts

school feedingExecutives of the parent teacher association in the Talensi and Nabdam districts of the Upper East region have expressed displeasure at the number of challenges facing the school feeding program in both districts.

The association expressed its displeasure at a meeting with the Talensi district assembly and Ghana Education Service in Tongo to engage the two stakeholders in finding a way forward.

Nabdam district secretary of the association, Nagbila Cletus who presented the issues on behalf of the association said during the first quarter of 2013 the P.T.A in collaboration with BONATADU and Action Aid Ghana carried out monitoring of school feeding programme and met to analyze the issues identified during monitoring visit to schools under the feeding program.

According to him the group met with head teachers, programme teachers, caterers and pupils to find out the operations of the programme.

According to the report poor quality and quantity of food, irregular feeding, ineffective food committees, late payments of feeding grants, enrolment and some cooks not medically examined were some of the challenges facing the programme.

He said the association will in the next quarter sensitize their members on the need to support the school to put up conducive cooking environment and utensils  The association therefore called on the assembly the Ghana Education Service to monitor the operations of the programme and redress the issues.

Meanwhile the district chief executive for Talensi, Edward Awunoore called for a formation of a vibrant food committee consisting of the assembly, Ghana Education Service and the P.T.A to monitor the operation of the programme.

According to him the said committee will be expected to monitor and report back the running of the programme for improvement.

Mr. Awunoore revealed that efforts are under way to put more schools in the district under the school feeding program knowing its advantages.
