Information reaching a1radioonline.com indicates that two students of the St. Francis Xavier Minor Seminary in the Upper West regional capital, Wa were tested positive for coronavirus.

The first student who complained of ill health on Monday 18th January, 2021 was sent for health care at the Wa Municipal hospital by Fr. Naaderi Martin. According to our source, a team of health workers later on the same day, broke the news to the school authorities that the student tested positive for COVID-19.

The following day, Tuesday, 19th January, 2021, another student who felt sick was sent to the hospital by the Rector of the school, Rev. Fr. Pamphilio Konpugbu Tengan and also tested positive for COVID-19.

The two students who hail from Hamile and Wa respectively in the Upper West Region are currently receiving treatment at the regional hospital under isolation.

An emergency meeting was held with the Deputy Regional Director of Public Health and the Diocesan Executive Secretary for health.  Our source says, a team, after the meeting, met the students to inform them of the situation of COVID-19 in the Seminary and to assure them of the support of the health authorities in dealing with the development.

In order not to conduct tests prematurely, our source added that the school authorities and the health workers managing COVID-19 cases in the region agreed to separate students who came into contact with the two students who tested positive from the rest of the student body.

Due to the lack of enough reagents at the Upper West regional hospital for mass testing of all the Seminary, the team agreed to conduct a random test on any student who shows signs of infection, pending a mass test on the group of students who have been separated from their colleagues, hopefully on the weekend.

The students are therefore advised to stay on campus in order to stem the spread of the virus.
