The Member of Parliament for Lawra Constituency Lawyer Bede Ziedeng has made a presentation of assorted items worth GHC 10,000.00 to the Birifo Senior High School in the Lawra Municipality of the Upper West Region.
The donation is aimed at supporting the affected students during the fire outbreak at the school’s girls dormitory on April 23, 2021.
The items include 24 uniforms, 24 check dresses, 50 pieces of sanitary part, 24 bags of rice, and 24 gallons of cooking oil (5litres).
The rest are 2 boxes of key bar soap, 25 packets of Omo, 240 exercise books, a bag of sugar, 24 students chalk boxes, a box of pens amongst others.
Lawyer Bede Ziedeng was however unhappy about what he described as mischief made by some people on his first visit to the school, that he donated 150 sachets of pure water as his support to the victims.
He was emphatic that the said miss leading information was published on the Lawra Municipal Assembly social media platform.
Lawyer Bede Ziedeng said it was important that the Municipal Chief Executive and Municipal Coordinating Director does not allow people to use the Municipal Assembly social media platform for mischievous purposes as the assembly does not belong to a particular political party but for all the constituents.
The Acting Headmaster of the School Adams Iddrisu commended the MP for the support saying that BIRISEC is one of the three Senior High Schools in the Lawra Municipality that still lack basic infrastructure and unfortunately suffered such a disaster.
Mr Iddrisu mentioned the abandoned school projects, lack of transport and infrastructure as the school’s major challenges.
The Headmaster was also grateful to some other donors especially NADMO and residents of Babile who supported the school in diverse ways.
Mr Iddrisu appealed for additional student’s dormitory and renovation of the affected building which is now in a deplorable state.
Lawyer Bede Ziedeng said all the appeals made by the school authority will be attended to at the appropriate time and pledged to partner with the Municipal Assembly to bring the needed development to not only the school but the entire constituency.
