The Upper East Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu, has dismissed assertions by Prof. Emmanuel Abugre Abole, the immediate-past District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bolgatanga East, that the rejection of the President’s nominee for Binduri District, Ayinga Yakubu, was due to lack of effort by the Regional Minister to get the said nominee endorsed.
Prof. Abole is reported to have alleged that the Minister together with the Upper East Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Anthony Namoo, failed in their responsibilities particularly in ensuring the first round endorsement of the DCE nominees in their respective home districts; Binduri and Nabdam.
But in what can be described as a direct rebuttal, Mr. Yakubu pointed out that the statement by Mr. Abole had vindicated him the Regional Minister when he indicated that “Two weeks ago, in your office, you admonished us to do our best to ensure our various candidates are endorsed and by that wanted to prevent me from traveling to Cape Coast to re-engage with my institution until the candidate was confirmed.
By this, it means the Regional Minister was and still burnt on making sure that all the nominees of the president are endorsed.”
Mr. Yakubu thereby wondered why “The former DCE instead of sympathizing with the Regional Minister for failing in his efforts to get the said nominee endorsed rather finds pleasure in insinuating that the Regional Minister and Chairman caused the lack of a first round endorsement of the nominees of Nabdam and Binduri respectfully.”
He believed the outburst of Mr. Abole was “Simply a display of bitterness and an unwarranted populist agenda after he failed to catch the eye of His Excellency [the President] in his second term of government.”
The Regional Minister also observed that “The former DCE is bitterly disgruntled and is encouraging confusion in the endorsement process”
Adding that “I would like to caution him to desist from that. He is one of the stakeholders in the party and that was the reason why I had a discussion with him regarding the confirmation of the president’s nominees in the region.”

It is disheartening and sad to read on Social Media that the former DCE for Bolga East who is one of the stakeholders of this great party in Upper East Region should in a statement accuse the hard working Regional Minister of Upper East for the failure of the Binduri Assembly to endorse the president’s nominee without any shred of evidence to that effect.

Again, reading the statement carefully indicates that the former DCE is bitterly disgruntled and is encouraging confusion in the endorsement process and I would like to caution him to desist from that. He is one of the stakeholders in the party and that was the reason why I had a discussion with him regarding the confirmation of the president’s nominees in the region.
Let me assure the nominees that I am solidly behind them and together we are working to get the endorsement and subsequently work together for the progress of the region and the party
I would not blame the former DCE but advice that next time, when he wants to make a statement, he should divorced his emotions from it and come out with facts that are helpful and worthwhile. I also want to sympathize with him I know he was not re-nominated and he is very bitter in that regard but the president of the country has a singular and constitional mandate to nominate MMDCES and not me as the Regional Minister. He was once given the opportunity to serve his people so he should immediately stop the blame game agenda.
