Ghana’s astute defender, Daniel Amartey produced a man-of-the-match display to salvage Leicester City from defeat at the hands of Spartak Moscow in a pulsating 1-1 of matchday four of the UEFA EUROPA League.

The foxes dominated possession in every sphere of the game in the first half but could not unlock the resolute and stubborn Spartak Moscow’s defense.

Brendan Rodgers’ men nearly got the breakthrough as Boubakary Soumare’s long-range effort was denied by the woodwork on the stroke of halftime. Leicester’s profligacy in front of goal meant the first half would end in a barren scoreline.

Leicester City began the second half on a jerky note as Spartak Moscow shot themselves into the lead through Nigeria international Victor Moses in the 51st minute. Leicester restored parity through a towering header from Daniel Amartey; just seven minutes after conceding.

Leicester would have won the game had Jamie Vardy converted the penalty in the dying embers of the game. Leicester kept on asking all the questions in a bid to claim all three points but fortune eluded on the night.

The result leaves Leicester third in group C with five points while Spartak Moscow are languishing at the bottom of the table with four points.
Leicester City travels to Elland Road to face Leeds United on Sunday while Spartak Moscow entertains Lokomotive Moscow in the Russian Premier league on Sunday.
