UE: Residents of Katanga joyous after being connected to national grid

Residents of Zuarungu-Katanga in the Bolgatanga East District of the Upper East Region are joyous after being connected to the national grid.

Hitherto the connection of the community to the national grid, members of the community lived in total darkness, making life unbearable. Assembly Member for the Zuarungu Katanga electoral area, Roger Akazabre who spoke to A1 News on behalf of the community members noted that the community has waited for electricity over a decade before being connected to the national grid.

According to Mr. Akazabre, residents of the Katanga community are excited about the provision of electricity in the community because of the economic transformation they foresee.

“When I came into office, the major concern of the community was electricity so I took it upon myself together with my Honorable members of parliament and the District Chief Executive so we were able to mobilize materials and kick start the work which we are powering today.

So it is a very exciting day for the people of Katanga and its environs. We realized that nowadays we are dealing with a technological world, and we have a lot of home appliances which without electricity cannot be used, so the electricity will go a long way to help the community you can even see it from the faces of the youth that they are very happy” he stated

The District Chief Executive for the Bolgatanga East, David Akolgo stated that the Katanga community deserves to be connected to the national grid in order for the residents to enjoy other social activities.

“This community have been yearning for electricity for long so we found it necessary that, the extent to which the contractor has gotten to with the work, he should power it for them so that, they can also celebrate their Christmas in light. So everybody is happy, you can even see the smiles in their faces so it is an exciting day”

Isaac Azure who represented the MP for Bolgatanga East, Lawyer Dominic Ayine expressed joy that the community has finally gotten electricity which he believes will go a long way to help the community members economically.
