Dr. Clement Apaak, Member of Parliament for Builsa South and the Deputy Ranking Member on the Education Select Committee in Parliament has been saddened by the realization that over the years, governments have only paid lip service to Persons With Disabilities (PWDs).

Speaking on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East, Dr Apaak explained that at a workshop in Koforidua, the capital of the Eastern Region, some Members of Parliament have been sensitized to the lack of socio-economic progression and State support to PWDs.

Worried about the negative consequences of the inactions of governments over the years, Dr. Apaak said it is only right that successive governments committed ample resources towards financing and providing opportunities for PWDs.

“You would not believe how bad we have treated our brothers and sisters who through no fault of theirs, are currently disabled. It is a shame that as a nation, we have only been paying lip service. I think the time is right for us to mainstream issues relating to disability”.

“Any of us can be disabled at any point in our lives so we ought to grant them their rights. Even in Islam, Christianity and other religions, we ought to give the best opportunities to those who are less privileged,” he said.
