The General Manager for A1 Radio, William Nlanjebor Jalulah has called for openness in the area of local governance. He made this appeal while speaking to Mark Smith on the Day Break Upper East Show on A1 Radio when he commented on his motivation for carrying out a report which sought to understand the Bolga Municipal Assembly’s revenue mobilization strategies along with the Assembly’s expenditure for 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021.

While appreciating the Assembly for making available information he sought through when he used the Right to Information Law, (RTI), Mr. Jalulah mentioned added that openness is very key in local governance.

“For me, I think in local governance or in leadership, openness is very good. There are people that you seek to help develop and they will demand accountability. They feel that you are using their resources and you must account for what it is that you are using their resources for,” he said.

Touching the efficacy the RTI law for information sourcing, the general manager noted that he only wrote to the assembly applying the law and the assembly readily assisted him in getting the information he needed while in another instance, the Ghana Police Service declined his request citing the tone of the letter as a basis.
