The governing New Patriotic party (NPP) in the Bolgatanga Central Constituency of the Upper East Region region has called on the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Constituency Secretary, Isaac Ayemvoa to, within 48 hours, withdraw and apologise over statements he made against the second Lady of the republic of Ghana Mrs. Samira Bawamia.

In a press statement signed by the Bolga Central Constituency Communication Officer of the NPP, Madam Tabitha Apegyine Ayillah, she explained that, following a misunderstanding between Sherigu community members and some Fulani herdsmen which resulted in the arrest of some youth from Sherigu, the NDC has sought to politicise the issue.

“The Bolga central NPP, hereby call on Isaac Ayemvoa to come with proof of his allegations or withdraw with immediate effect and apologise unreservedly in the next 48 hours or be invited by the police. Such misleading comments only serve to create unnecessary tension and divert the real issues at hand.”

The NPP said it has intercepted messages shared on a whatsApp platform by Isaac Ayemvoa alleging that the Fulanis have been transported from the Sherigu community to the Bolgatanga stadium under the instructions of the Vice president Dr. Mahamudu Bawamia and his wife, Mrs. Samira Bawamia.

The NPP claim that Mr. Ayemvoa further alleged that the Wife of the Vice president Mrs. Bawamia Samira subsequently visited the Fulani herdsmen under protection in the Bolgatanga stadium  to the neglect of the community members who were shot at with live bullets.

“We have intercepted messages from the NDC’s Bolgatanga constituency secretary, in the person of Isaac Ayemvoa, saying that the Fulanis are protected under the instructions of Bawumia and his wife at the stadium” by the police. This is his personal view, which is unfounded and a palpable falsehood.”

“He also claimed that, so it is ok for the Fulanis to have protection but as for the Sherigu community they can be shot with live bullets, and added that, in what capacity did Samira visit the Fulanis?”

“These misleading and unguarded statements are aimed at tarnishing their good names and to court disaffection to the esteemed second couple of the land. We stand firmly behind the integrity and dedication of the vice president and the Second.”

The NPP in their press statement on the issue also alleged that the member of Parliament for the Bolgatanga Central constituency, Isaac Adongo has failed to show interest in the issue.

“Isaac Adongo, MP for the constituency was seen on the 29th May, 2023 at spot opposite the Abole junction cooling off while the Regional Minister, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), and Bolga central NPP chairman were busily trying to solve clashes between the two but yesterday at the court, he appeared with food wrapped in black polyphones and distributing them to the people who had been arrested. He was, however, never interested in the situation when they were still at the negotiation stage. He has shown little interest in genuinely addressing the situation. Instead he has chosen to aid his party followers in marring the situation at hand. Their cheap ways of scoring political points at the expense of the people’s plight will never wash.”
