The District Chief Executive for Bolgatanga East, Jacob Abugre Aka-Eri, has urged students to stay focused on their education and avoid social vices that can derail their future.

Speaking at the 69th Independence Day celebration in Zuarungu under the theme “Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope,” Mr. Aka-Eri emphasised the importance of education in building prosperity and restoring hope for the district and the country.

He specifically advised students to say no to harmful drugs, early pregnancies, and illegal mining activities, popularly known as galamsey.

“Stay focused on your education. Avoid social vices that can derail your future. Say no to Red, Tramadol and other harmful drugs, early pregnancies, and illegal mining activities popularly referred to as galamsey,” he said.

The DCE also cautioned against the increasing trend of young men dropping out of school to engage in driving Candos.

“A lot of our young men are also dropping out of school to engage in the driving of what is popularly known as Candos,” he said.

Mr. Aka-Eri expressed gratitude to teachers, security services, and traditional authorities for their dedication and support in shaping the district’s future.

“To our teachers, I express our sincere appreciation for your dedication and sacrifice. You continue to shape minds and build character under challenging circumstances. Your work does not go unnoticed,” he said.

The DCE urged all citizens to celebrate the day in moderation and peace, and to leave with a renewed commitment to contribute positively to the district and Ghana as a whole.
