The National President, Prof. Samuel Awinkene Atintono has commended President John Dramani Mahama for reaffirming his commitment to the construction of the Bolgatanga Airport during his State of the Nation Address in Parliament.
Speaking on behalf of chiefs and people of the Upper East Region, the group described the project as a major milestone for the region’s development.
In a communiqué issued after its 2025 Congress, BONABOTO recalled its earlier call on government to prioritize the airport project and expressed satisfaction that the appeal had been acknowledged. The group noted that the Ghana Airports Company Limited, together with the Upper East Regional Minister, Donatus Akamugri Atanga, has begun engagements with chiefs, landowners, opinion leaders, and traditional authorities to finalize land documentation for the project.
Prof. Awinkene Atintono urged all stakeholders to expedite the process to allow construction to begin without delay.
“The Bolgatanga Airport has been a long-standing priority, and the time for action is now,” the statement said.
BONABOTO also called on the Regional Minister to remain focused and committed to ensuring the successful execution of the project, cautioning that while stakeholder engagement is necessary, it should not slow down progress.
“Distractions must not be allowed to delay this important project,” the group emphasized.
The union further appealed to chiefs, landowners, and community leaders to cooperate fully with the Regional Minister and the Ghana Airports Company Limited to resolve outstanding land issues.
BONABOTO assured that it would continue to monitor developments on the project, noting that people across the Upper East Region are eagerly awaiting its execution.
