The Assembly Member for the Dorongo Electoral Area, Atugra Richmond, has warned that the community may stage a demonstration if government fails to begin desilting the Dorongo dam.
Speaking to A1 Radio on the long-standing issue, Mr Atugra expressed frustration over what he described as years of neglect, despite the community’s contributions through taxes.
“If desilting is not done, the community will have no option but to go on a demonstration,” he said.
He stressed that the community deserves urgent attention, noting that the dam has the potential to support food production and contribute to national food security.
According to him, previous efforts to get authorities to address the issue have yielded no results.
“All my predecessors fought for the desilting of the dam over the years, but nothing has happened,” he said, calling on government to respond to the community’s concerns.
Mr Atugra also recalled the economic importance of the dam in the past, when it supported farming activities and helped families meet their needs.
“My father, through farming using the Dorongo dam, was able to take care of all his children, support the family, and build a house,” he said.
