The Member of Parliament for Bongo Constituency, Lawyer Charles Bawaduah, has cut sod for the construction of a Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound at the Asaloko community, as part of efforts to improve access to healthcare in deprived areas.

The sod-cutting formed part of a series of development activities undertaken by the MP across the constituency, including the initiation of three mechanized boreholes at Bongo Senior High School, Gowrie Senior High School, and the Feo market, as well as the donation of 2,100 mathematics sets to the Ghana Education Service for candidates sitting the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Speaking to the media, Lawyer Bawaduah said the projects were informed by concerns raised by constituents during his campaign tours.

When we were going around during the period of campaigning, we listened to the people. They told us what their problems were. By far, the issue that came up everywhere was the lack of potable water. So we decided that water should be a priority because water is life,” he stated.

He explained that the mechanized boreholes, alongside 17 hand pumps being funded by the Assembly and additional support from development partners, would significantly improve access to safe drinking water in the district.

In all, we are looking at about 32 water facilities, and I believe this is a major step forward in addressing the water challenges in the district,” he added.

On healthcare delivery, the MP emphasized that the CHPS compound at Asaloko would bring essential services closer to residents, particularly in hard-to-reach communities.

The area is one of the most deprived and distant from health facilities. That is why we decided to site the CHPS compound there, to ensure that healthcare is brought to the doorsteps of the people,” he explained.

He disclosed that the project, funded through the District Assembly Common Fund, is expected to be completed within six months.

Franklina Amoah, speaking on behalf of the District Health Directorate, highlighted the difficulties residents of Asaloko face in accessing healthcare, especially during the dry season.

She noted that pregnant women and children often struggle to access antenatal, postnatal, and vaccination services, adding that the new facility would significantly improve health outcomes in the area.

A community member, Linda Nsobila, expressed gratitude to the MP for responding to the needs of the people, particularly women. She said the CHPS compound would ease the burden on pregnant women who previously had to travel long distances for medical care.

At the Gowrie Senior High School, Headmistress Ivy Naaso Batur welcomed the intervention, noting that the construction of a mechanized borehole would help resolve persistent water challenges facing the school.

Gowrie Senior High Technical School can proudly say that we will soon experience the end of the water crisis. We are most excited by the continuous support from the MP and other stakeholders,” she said.

She, however, appealed for further support to complete abandoned infrastructure projects and address land documentation challenges facing the school.

Meanwhile, as part of efforts to support education, the MP donated 2,100 mathematics sets to the Ghana Education Service for distribution to 2,068 BECE candidates in the constituency.

Lawyer Bawaduah reaffirmed his commitment to improving living conditions in the constituency, stating that his focus remains on delivering practical solutions to the pressing needs of the people. He was accompanied by the DCE for Bongo, Diana Ayamga Asoketarige
