The Bolga East District Chief Executive, Jacob Abugre Aka Eri, spearheaded a community-wide cleanup exercise today as part of National Sanitation Day activities.
The exercise began at the Customs Barrier in Zuarungu and saw the participation of staff of the Bolgatanga East Assembly, customs officers, the Ghana Police Service, street janitors, and community members.
In his address, the DCE expressed gratitude to all participants for supporting the sanitation exercise. He explained that this year’s cleanup was intentionally organized as a low-key event as part of efforts to decentralize sanitation activities across the district.
He said the approach was aimed at rotating cleanup exercises to different communities to increase participation and ensure sanitation efforts reach all parts of the district effectively.
The Bolga East District’s commitment to maintaining a clean and healthy environment was reflected in the collaboration among participants during the exercise. Authorities say the decentralized approach is expected to encourage greater community ownership and sustained participation in future sanitation activities.
The District Sanitation Officer, Rose Naana Mensah, also expressed satisfaction with the turnout and success of the exercise. She commended residents, assembly staff, and security personnel for their participation and support.
According to her, “the collective effort demonstrated the community’s commitment to maintaining a clean and healthy environment,” she said.
The cleanup exercise was held in line with the President’s directive for National Sanitation Day to be observed on the first Saturday of every month as part of efforts to promote a cleaner and healthier Ghana.
