Talensi PM pushes for equitable distribution of development projects across electoral areas

The Presiding Member of the Talensi District Assembly, Edward Azuah Akolgo, says the Assembly is prioritising equity and inclusion in the distribution of development projects to ensure that no electoral area is left behind.

Speaking on the Assembly’s development planning approach on A1 Radio, Mr. Akolgo said members regularly consult outside formal sittings to ensure that the needs of all electoral areas are captured.

“When we meet sometimes, we don’t even have to meet in the assembly,” he said. “I would call and meet members outside the assembly to ask, ‘What do you think we should do?’ We put our heads together to make sure that every electoral area is talking with one issue or the other.”

He said the Assembly has adopted a system that ensures fair distribution of projects such as boreholes across all electoral areas.

“If 15 boreholes are being drilled, the aim is to ensure 15 different electoral areas benefit,” he said. “As I can confidently tell, 25 boreholes have been drilled and dotted across all the electoral areas, and every electoral area has a share of it. That is what we call collective development.”

Mr. Akolgo explained that assembly members are tasked with identifying the most pressing needs in their electoral areas, particularly communities facing water shortages, to guide project allocation.

“This ensures that projects go where they are needed most and generate visible impact,” he said. “When you send a project there, you see the applause coming from the communities. It’s not always about ‘I’ or ‘me.’ It is always about Talensi.”

He stressed that the Assembly’s goal is to ensure development is rotated fairly so that all electoral areas benefit over time.

“Today, it could be this electoral area, tomorrow it could be another. We all push for our electoral areas, but at the end, we look at which area is most needy and push it ahead,” he said.

Mr. Akolgo added that the collaborative approach has strengthened unity among assembly members and supported the delivery of development projects across the district.
