Construction of key infrastructure at Gambibgo Community Day Senior High School in the Bolgatanga East District is progressing, raising expectations that the school could begin operating as a boarding institution once the facilities are completed.
The ongoing project includes boys’ and girls’ dormitories, science laboratories, a dining hall and teachers’ bungalows, all aimed at addressing the school’s longstanding infrastructure deficits.
The Chief of the Gambibgo Traditional Area, Sadik Ayine Inusah, inspected the project site and expressed satisfaction with the pace of work. He commended the contractor for the progress made and praised the Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga East and Attorney General, Dominic Ayine, for facilitating the project.
He said the additional infrastructure would improve access to quality secondary education for students in Gambibgo and surrounding communities.
Headmaster Francis Adatara said the contract was awarded only a few months ago, but work has progressed steadily. He appealed to the Member of Parliament and other stakeholders to continue supporting the project to ensure its timely completion.
According to him, completing the facilities before the start of the next academic year would enable the school to admit boarding students for the first time.
“For us as a school community, our hope is that these facilities will be completed on schedule so that students can begin occupying the boarding houses in the next academic year. That will greatly improve teaching and learning,” he said.
Since its establishment as a Community Day Senior High School, Gambibgo SHS has operated as a day school without boarding facilities. Students from distant communities either travel long distances each day or rent accommodation near the school, a situation school authorities say affects supervision, safety and academic performance.
The school has also operated without adequately equipped science laboratories, limiting practical science instruction.
School authorities believe the ongoing expansion will improve teaching and learning, increase enrolment and reduce absenteeism by providing the infrastructure needed to support a boarding system.
Community members who joined the inspection expressed optimism that continued support from government and other stakeholders would ensure the project’s completion and strengthen secondary education in the district.
