Moses Amoah, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Navrongo Central Constituency Secretary, has criticised the circumstances surrounding the arrest of Dennis Miracle Aboagye, Director of Communications for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s 2028 campaign team and a leading NPP communicator, describing the operation as unnecessary and inconsistent with due process.

Speaking on Day Break Upper East on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, Mr. Amoah questioned why security agencies allegedly arrested Mr. Aboagye at the airport after previously allowing him to cooperate voluntarily with investigators.

According to Mr. Amoah, Mr. Aboagye had earlier honoured an invitation from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), responded to investigators’ questions, and was subsequently asked to return home while awaiting further communication.

“Has he committed any treasonous offence? The man is under investigation and has not been declared guilty of anything,” Mr. Amoah stated.

He argued that if investigators needed to question Mr. Aboagye again after his return to Ghana, they could simply have invited him instead of directing immigration officials to arrest him upon arrival.

“What was the essence of this dramatic and shambolic arrest at the airport? I don’t get it. Dennis Miracle Aboagye would have voluntarily reported to EOCO with his lawyers if he had been invited.”

Mr. Amoah also criticised what he described as prolonged detention without adequate communication, alleging that Mr. Aboagye was denied access to his lawyers and food while in custody. “Nobody is saying our members should be protected if they commit financial crimes. But take them through due process. That is all the NPP is asking.”

Background

Dennis Miracle Aboagye, the NPP’s Director of Communications, was arrested on Sunday, July 12, 2026, upon his arrival in Ghana from an overseas trip as part of ongoing EOCO investigations.

His arrest has generated political debate, with the NPP accusing the government of political persecution, while state authorities maintain that the investigations are being conducted in accordance with the law.
