A fire destroyed three shops at the Bolgatanga main lorry station near the Metro Mass Transit terminal on Monday evening, leaving traders with significant losses.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire started at about 5:06 p.m. in an upstairs boutique before spreading to two adjoining shops.
The affected shops contained clothing and other merchandise, including jeans, trousers, T-shirts, sandals and other items.
Traders and bystanders rushed to the scene to help salvage goods as the fire spread, while the Ghana National Fire Service was called to contain the blaze.
Two fire tenders were deployed to the scene, and firefighters, with support from members of the community, eventually brought the fire under control.
The affected shop owners were unable to immediately estimate the value of goods destroyed in the fire.
“We are disturbed today. Our goods are gone. Where do I start from?” one of the affected shop owners told Bolga FM.
The Ghana National Fire Service has begun investigations to determine the cause of the fire.
The affected traders have appealed for support to help them recover from their losses.
