Former Deputy Upper East Regional Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Casper Sunday Kampoli, says he has developed beyond conventional political communication, gaining experience in research, local governance and development advocacy that could strengthen the party’s communications in the region.

Mr Kampoli, who is consulting party stakeholders over a possible bid for Upper East Regional Communications Officer, said the experience and networks he has gained since unsuccessfully contesting the position in 2022 have better prepared him for the role.

“I’m not just coming back as a mere communicator. I’m coming back as somebody who has built capacity,” he said in an interview on A1 Radio monitored by Bolga FM.

Mr Kampoli said leaving the Upper East Region in 2022 to pursue further studies gave him opportunities to gain national exposure and build relationships that could benefit both the party and the region.

“It’s a positive thing for me that, though I’ve served in the region for eight years as an executive, I now have national exposure. I’ve built national networks and connections,” he said.

He said his experience now extends beyond political communication to research, local governance, development, technical communication, marketing and branding.

Mr Kampoli disclosed that he previously worked as a research fellow with the Institute of Local Government Service, where he gained practical experience working with local government actors.

As part of that work, he said he led the training of assembly members across the six districts of the North East Region in 2024.

“For the first time, maybe I’ll say this: I trained assembly members for the six districts in North East Region in 2024. I led that as a Research Fellow with the Institute of Local Government Service,” he said.

Mr Kampoli said that experience had broadened his understanding of how communication could be used not only to promote a political party but also to advocate for development and connect communities with opportunities.

He argued that political communication should go beyond defending a party’s record on radio and television to include strategic communication, branding, stakeholder engagement and development advocacy.

Mr Kampoli said his national network could also be used to identify potential development partners and help draw attention to the development needs of the Upper East Region.

He maintained that his academic pursuits have further strengthened his capacity without preventing him from contributing to the NDC’s communications activities.

Mr Kampoli served as a regional executive for eight years, including as Deputy Regional Communications Officer, before contesting for Regional Communications Officer in 2022.

He has, however, not formally declared his candidacy for another attempt at the position.

Mr Kampoli said consultations with party stakeholders are ongoing and that the outcome would determine whether he enters the race.
