The Upper East Regional Taekwondo Association has improved its performance at the Korea Ambassador’s Cup Championship, winning eight medals this year compared with five at the 2025 edition.
The team won one gold, one silver and six bronze medals at the 16th edition of the championship, held at the Borteyman Sports Complex in Accra on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026.
Ten athletes, comprising three females and seven males, represented the Upper East Region in Poomsae and sparring competitions across the junior and cadet categories.
Patience Ali Chakoja emerged as one of the team’s standout performers, winning gold in Junior Poomsae and bronze in Junior Sparring.
Owusu Ferguson won silver in Junior Poomsae, while Abugdor Abdul-Gaffar Tetera and Kevina Anongba Dalaba each secured bronze medals in the category.
Dalaba, competing at the championship for the first time, added another bronze medal in junior sparring. Tetera also won bronze in the junior sparring competition.
Owusu Ferguson did not reach the medal stage in junior sparring after losing his second fight.
In the cadet Poomsae category, Wahabu Adeliyine Azure Farkadanni marked his first appearance at the championship with a bronze medal.
Angus Adeliyine Anongyine, Abugdor Abdul-Haqq Timmi, Dalaba Trevlin, Othniel Aselsiwine and Obed Batuure Yeli-Ahig also competed but did not reach the medal positions in the cadet category.
The eight medals represent an improvement of three over the team’s performance at the 2025 championship, when the Upper East Region won one gold, one silver and three bronze medals.
The team maintained its gold and silver medal counts while doubling its number of bronze medals from three to six.
The championship was organised under the auspices of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea and the Ghana Taekwondo Federation and brought together athletes from across the country.
