The Kassena-Nankana West District Assembly will prioritise addressing furniture shortages in schools over the next four years, District Chief Executive Stephen Akurugu Aeke has said.
According to the DCE, several schools in the district continue to face furniture shortages, affecting the learning environment for pupils and students.
Speaking on Bolga FM’s Tinmaalgo Sanga programme, Mr. Aeke said the Assembly intends to significantly reduce the furniture deficit and, where possible, eliminate it before the end of the government’s four-year term.
He said providing adequate desks and other school furniture is necessary to create a conducive environment for teaching and learning.
Mr. Aeke said the Assembly would work with education authorities and other relevant stakeholders to identify schools with the most pressing furniture needs and direct interventions towards them.
The commitment also forms part of the Assembly’s planned use of its District Assemblies Common Fund. Mr. Aeke has said 10% of the fund is earmarked for the repair and provision of school furniture, particularly chairs and desks.
He expressed confidence that sustained investment over the four-year period could substantially reduce the furniture shortages facing schools across the district.
