The Bongo District Assembly has deployed equipment under the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) to undertake temporary repairs on the deteriorated Ayopia–Soe road following concerns over its condition and the risks it poses to road users.
The intervention is focusing particularly on the section around the Soe Market, where deep gullies and potholes have made movement difficult for motorists, pedestrians and other road users.
The District Chief Executive (DCE) said the ongoing works are an immediate intervention intended to make the road more motorable while efforts continue towards its full rehabilitation.
Residents say the condition of the road has deteriorated significantly, affecting movement between Ayopia, Soe and surrounding communities.
They also say the poor state of the road has contributed to accidents, particularly around badly damaged sections where motorists have to manoeuvre around potholes and gullies.
The Assembly has therefore deployed its DRIP equipment to work on some of the worst affected portions and provide temporary relief to road users.
Residents have welcomed the intervention but are hopeful that it will eventually be followed by a more permanent rehabilitation of the road.
The development follows concerns raised by residents and reports by A1 Radio and Bolga FM highlighting the deteriorating condition of the Bongo-Soe-Ayopia road and its impact on road users.
While the current works are expected to improve movement in the short term, the Assembly says a comprehensive rehabilitation will be required to provide a lasting solution to the road’s condition.
