The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of Awe Senior High Technical School (Awe SHTS) has donated a brand-new Mahindra pickup to the school to support administrative activities, student welfare, and transportation needs. The intervention is expected to ease a major challenge that has confronted the school for nearly a decade, following the absence of an official school vehicle.
For close to ten years, the school, popularly known as the “Royals,” has largely depended on a tricycle, popularly called a “motor king,” for transportation. The situation has also meant that staff members resident on campus have occasionally had to use their personal vehicles to transport sick students to health facilities.
The Headmaster, Rev. Augustine Atanga, has similarly had to rely on his personal vehicle and, at times, a motorbike to undertake essential administrative duties.
The PTA’s donation therefore provides relief to the school and is expected to improve its ability to respond to administrative, logistical and emergency transportation needs.
The Headmaster formally presented the vehicle to the Upper East Regional Director of Education, Razak Z. Abdul-Korah, on Monday, September 14, 2026, for his blessings. The presentation was witnessed by members of the management of the Regional Education Directorate.
Mr Abdul-Korah expressed appreciation to the PTA for its continued support towards the development and welfare of the school.
He commended the association for responding to what he described as an important need and urged the school to ensure that the vehicle is used strictly for its intended purpose.
The Regional Director also tasked the driver to take proper care of the vehicle and adhere to road safety regulations, particularly prescribed speed limits, to protect occupants and prolong the vehicle’s lifespan.
Rev. Augustine Atanga expressed gratitude to the PTA for responding to the school’s pressing transportation challenge.
He assured the Regional Director and the PTA that the vehicle would be put to good use to support effective school administration and the welfare of students.
Despite the intervention, Awe SHTS continues to face infrastructure challenges, including inadequate teachers’ bungalows, dormitory facilities and classroom blocks.
The school is therefore appealing for continued support from stakeholders to address these needs and provide a conducive environment for teaching and learning.
Awe SHTS, however, continues to make strides academically and has distinguished itself in the National Science and Mathematics Quiz (NSMQ), emerging as one of the notable schools from the Upper East Region.
The school’s performance in the competition has been particularly encouraging since Rev. Atanga assumed the administration of the school in 2021.
