Patrick Anamoo Akuntubgo has retained his position as Deputy Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Bongo Constituency of the Upper East Region.

His retention follows the party’s constituency executive elections and marks the continuation of a political career spanning more than two decades, during which he has served in various capacities at the branch and constituency levels.

Mr Akuntubgo, who was first elected Deputy Communications Officer in 2022, is expected to continue supporting the party’s communication activities, grassroots mobilisation and efforts to strengthen unity among members.

His involvement in NDC politics dates back to 2004, when he began serving as a party agent during elections.

Between 2005 and 2015, he served as a Branch Secretary, coordinating party activities, maintaining records and facilitating communication between branch executives and members.

He has also been a member of the NDC’s Bongo Constituency Campaign Team since 2004, contributing to electoral campaigns, voter mobilisation and other party activities.

Since 2008, Mr Akuntubgo has served as a party agent at the Electoral Commission’s Strong Room, where he has undertaken information technology-related responsibilities during electoral processes.

His experience in political communication also includes serving as Communications Director of the John Mahama Fun Club between 2017 and 2021, a role that involved political messaging and supporter mobilisation.

In addition, he has contributed to the NDC’s reorganisation activities aimed at strengthening grassroots structures and improving engagement with party members.

Mr Akuntubgo previously served as Public Relations Officer of the Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN) at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

With his retention, he intends to build on his experience to strengthen communication among party executives, branch officers and grassroots supporters in the constituency.

He believes effective political communication should extend beyond election periods and must remain factual, respectful and responsive to the concerns of party members.

Mr Akuntubgo also advocates greater collaboration among party communicators, improved information sharing and regular engagement with grassroots members.

He maintains that listening to members, accommodating differing opinions and promoting unity are essential to strengthening the NDC’s structures in Bongo.
