Upper East Team leader of Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication (IPEC), Rex Asanga has said the issue of unemployment in the country is now an issue of National Security and a shame to the leadership of the country.

According to him, the numbers are alarming and very shameful and if not attended to will be a threat to the country.

Mr. Asanga made this comment on A1 Radio’s Daybreak Upper East Wednesday while speaking to Christopher Asima on some of the initiatives IPEC intends to initiate in the course of reducing poverty.

“The level of unemployment in the country is alarming and very worrying to say the least. It has now become an issue of national concern which if not dealt with will threaten the security of the country.”

He said it is imperative that the youth are reoriented about creating opportunities for themselves rather than depending on government for employment after their schooling.

The youth should be reoriented on their taste for white collar jobs and focus on seeing the opportunities around them and turn them into great ventures they can call their own. It is important we make the youth aware that they need to take advantage of the system afforded them to do greater things,” he said.

He indicated that there are several Ghanaian graduates in most parts of the world who are selling on the streets and they see it as a rather lucrative venture than sitting in offices and therefore called on all stakeholders to psyche the youth to take advantage of the similar opportunities the country affords them.
