The Chairman for the Upper East region chapter of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Michael Ayuraboya has bemoaned the kind of education provided to pupils who attend private schools in the country.

According to him, instead of a holistic education which encompasses proper moral upbringing and the ability to be self-dependent, Private schools only educate their students on how to pass examinations.

Mr. Ayuraboyawho was speaking on Bolgatanga-based A1 Radio said he is yet to be convinced by any individual that the kind of education provided to students in Private schools supersedes that which is provided in public schools.

He said “you know my brother children in Private schools are taught only how to pass exams but not given a holistic education like it is expected of them. These children pass and go to the various Senior High Schools and Universities and are sacked because they under perform. The Private schools just provide them with the kind of education that does not make them self-reliant so if they don’t have similar help, they fail”.

He indicated that the country cannot rely on such system of education for growth and it is imperative that authorities look into the kind of education the Private schools provide.

Speaking on government’s proposed extension of closing times for public schools, he indicated that the move will not yield any academic results for the schools. He rather charged government to consider resourcing the schools in order to help boost their performance.
