The Chairman for the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) in the Upper East region, Michael Ayureboya has said the government and the Ghana Education Service’s decision to organize licensing exams for teachers in the country is just cheap talk and not see the day of light.

According to him, the government and education service has failed to organize stakeholder consultations with teacher groups and other concerned stakeholders in order to spell out the modalities for the proposed exams.

He indicated that as of now, teachers are not aware of which category of teachers expected to sit for the exams.

He said “we don’t know which categories of teachers are expected to sit for the proposed exams. I don’t know if me who has been in the system for two decades will be required to write the exams or it is the students in the training colleges who will be expected to write this exams they are talking about”.

He further indicated that government has not come clear as to who is expected to foot the bills for the exams describing the move as “a cheap talk by a politician which will never be put into action”.

He called on government and the Ghana Education service to rather organize a stakeholders consultation meeting in order to come clear with the modalities for the said examination and clear doubts surrounding the exams.
