The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Peter Amewu has asked Shaanxi Mining to resume operations in Gbane in the Talensi District in the Upper East region.

It could be recalled that the Minister ordered that mining activities by Shaanxi Mining should be suspended after some illegal miners died in the area. Residents of the community after the death of the illegal miners blamed the activities of Shaanxi Mining for the death of the miners.

But in a letter signed by the Acting Chief Director of the Ministry, Sulemana Mahama to the Shaanxi Mining and sighted by a1radioonline.com, the Minister has asked that the mining company start its operations in the community.

The letter said “I have been directed by the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. John Peter Amewu to inform you that following his visit to the mine on August 9, 2017, he noted the progress you have made so far to ensure Health, safety and Environment within the mine in compliance with his earlier directives and therefore approves your request to reopen the mine”.

The letter further charged Shaanxii “to strictly adhere to tenents of the mining law and the regulations on mining in the country”.

Meanwhile, when a1radioonline.com spoke to Public Relations Officer of the Mining Company, Maxwel Womah, he indicated that the company has been vindicated by the Directive of the Lands and Natural resources Minister.

He indicated that the company is ready to recall all five hundred workers who were made to go home during the suspension and was hopeful that the mine will open for operations on Monday.
