Free SHS to address 70% failure in WASSCE

Deputy Minister of Education,Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum  has said the Free SHS policy has come in to help address the failures recorded by the various Senior High Schools in the country.

Addressing the press in the Northern Regional Capital, the Minister said “over the years, there have been 70% failure in the WASSCE and that does not speak well of the country’s education so the President has introduced this policy to help address the perennial failure”.

“Ghanaian students go to the various Senior High Schools but they cannot make the grades that will qualify them for University education. 70% of the students fail yearly and this needs to stop. Ghanaian students deserve better and that is what we are seeking to deliver with this policy.”

He indicated that the comprehensively Free Senior High School policy will hold head teachers of the various schools accountable for the grades their students produce in order for the head teachers to sit up.

He indicated under the Free SHS policy, government has procured text books for students and therefore the students have no excuse to blame anybody or lack of teaching and learning materials when they do not excel in their exams.
