Registration of Upper East Citizens In National Identification Exercise Slated For 15th August To 11th September 2013

National Identification AuthorityThe National Identification Authority will from the 15th of August to 11th September this year, embark on a mass registration of Ghanaian citizens and foreign nationals legally living in the Upper East Region.

The identification data that will be collected from individuals will serve the purpose of promoting good governance, create a safe society and facilitate effective national development.  At a media sensitization workshop on Monday in Bolgatanga, Head of Public Affairs at the National Identification Authority, Bertha Dzeble said the mandatory exercise which is free of charge will register individuals from the age of six and above.

Ms Dzeble said the Upper East Region will be divided into two zones adding that each zone will take ten days for the registration exercise. She said the first zone where the exercise will start on August 15th to august 24th is made up of the Bongo District, Bolgatanga Municipality, Builsa North and South Districts, Kassena Nankana Municipal and Kassena Nankana West Districts.

The second zone where the exercise will continue from September 2 to September 11 will cover the rest of the districts. They are: Bawku Municipal, Bawku West District, the Garu and Tempane Districts, Talensi and Nabdam Districts and the Binduri district.

Ms Dzeble also gave a highlight of information and other things that will required of individuals during the registration under the National Identification Exercise. She said fingerprints of individuals as well as their passport photographs and signatures will be required.

Ms Dzeble also advised individuals to desist from registering twice or risk being sent to jail if they do so.
