Advocacy group, the Northern Patriots in Research and Advocacy (NOPRA) has given an indication that they will mobilize youth in the Upper East Region to demonstrate against government if Northern Senior High Schools are closed down over the absence of students’ feeding grants.
On Monday, the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) warned that Senior High Schools in the three northern regions would be closed down if government does not release their feeding grants by Friday. President of CHASS, Samuel Ofosi-Adjei disclosed that last week, the Regional Chairmen of CHASS discussed the issue at an executive meeting where they said without the feeding grants, it would be difficult to run the schools.
NOPRA is therefore not happy about the development. Its President Bismark Adongo Ayorogo says the Northern Students’ Scholarship Scheme was set up as a sort of compensation by Ghana’s colonial masters and should not be abolished or taken for granted. He spoke to Albert Sore on A1 Radio’s Day-break Upper East on Wednesday.
Mr. Ayorogo threatened a demonstration by NOPRA if indeed, schools in the three northern regions are closed because of government’s inability to pay students; feeding grants.
