The Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Obiri Boahene has said only immature minds will describe the New Patriotic Party as an ethnocentric party.

His comments comes a day after the former Trades Minister and Member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ekow Spio Gabrah described the New Patriotic Party as an Akan party that has over the years had only Akans as leaders.

He said “The [NDC] is a party that has had Presidents from the Volta, Central and Northern Regions [but] this is not the case in the NPP”

But speaking to A1 Radio’s Ibrahim Aziz, the Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party described comments by Ekow Spio Gabrah as immature indicating that it is clear he  is a novice in the Ghanaian Political arena.

He indicated that the former Trades Minister has in the time past displayed his immaturity on several instances saying “such an immature mind like him described Ministers of his own government as Team B. Which politician describes Ministers under his own government as Team B. This is a clear indication that he is immature when it comes to politics”.

“If this is the language Ekow wants to use, he is welcomed but some of us are matured and will not engage in such conversation. Even my ethics as a lawyer does not permit me to use the ethnocentric card. We at the NPP believe in democracy and that is how we select our leaders and we will continue to do that.”

Obiri Boahene indicated that the NPP is particular about providing a better life for Ghanaians and is not concerned about what happens in the National Democratic Congress adding that even John Dramani Mahama does not have the power to wrestle power from the NPP in 2020.
