NGO’s Call for Peace in Bawku ahead of Supreme Court Verdict

Three Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) operating in the Upper East Region, the Centre for Continuing Education and Professional Development (CENFED), the Bawku Women’s Development Association (BEWDA) Ghana and the Community Development and Advocacy Centre (CODAC) on Thursday organized a peace match and forum in the Bawku Municipality.

The peace match which formed part of efforts for a peaceful nation ahead of the Supreme Court verdict expected to be announced on the 29th of August was on the theme: “Peace, a gateway for national integration and development”.

Bawku Municipal Police Commander, Ebenezer Kweku Asare who addressed participants drown from the security services, Chiefs, Opinion leaders, the clergy, students and youth groups indicated that peace was a pre-requisite of national development.

He therefore called on the people of Bawku to live peacefully and accept the ruling of the Supreme Court when it is announced.

He assured the public of his outfit’s readiness to deal with any eventualities in the aftermath of the verdict. The Progammes Manager of BEWDA GHANA, Shaibu Boli said the peace match and forum was organized in preparedness of the Supreme Court ruling and to ensure peace and stability in the municipality.

Youth groups in Bawku and its environs also called on the youth to exercise restraint and give peace the chance while awaiting the verdict of the supreme court.
