Some NDC youth in Bawku yesterday morning massed up and stationed themselves in front of the Bawku police station, demanding the release of five of their colleagues who were picked up by police following a shooting incident last Sunday.

The youth had intended staying there for up to 24 hours if their colleagues were not released. Vehicles in front of the Bawku municipal assembly were shot at and damaged according to the Bawku police. Bawku divisional police commander, Chief Supt. Ebenezer Kweku Asare said they believed the shooting had something to do with a press conference held by the youth last Saturday, demanding the replacement of the new Bawku MCE nominee.

The youth who massed up in front of the police station said they had nothing to do with the shooting. Azongo John Ibrahim is their leader. Chief Supt. Asare said for as long as the youth did not cause any trouble, they could stay in front of the police station for as long as they wanted.

He indicated that the suspects will be arraigned before the Bawku Municipal police commander and that will determine whether they should be released or not.

Meanwhile, the new MCE nominee for Bawku, Amadu Karimu says he would rather not respond to the allegations made against him by the youth at the press conference on Saturday.

In an exclusive interview with A1 News, Mr. Karimu said the youth had every right to register their grievances but as a leader, he intends to bring everyone on board if he is confirmed as the MCE. Therefore reacting to the youth may defeat his plans of having an all-inclusive leadership.
