The Information Minister, Mustapha Hamid has said there was no need for unemployed Nurses to picket at the Health Ministry.

Some nurses over the week picketed at the Ministry of Health to drum home the need for government to employ their services after they have completed their education and passed the Nurses Licensing exams.

But speaking to A1 Radio’s Samuel Mbura, the Information Minister said that the government has started the processes involved in recruiting over twenty thousand nurses into the various health facilities in the country.

He indicated that the 2018 budget states clearly that government intends to employ over thirty thousand health personnel out of which twenty-seven thousand of them will be nurses and that should have been known by the Nurses in order to avoid picketing at the Health Ministry.

“In the 2018 budget, there is a provision for recruiting thirty-two thousand health personnel and out of this number twenty-seven thousand of them will be nurses so definitely the processes have been started to engage these Nurses and that’s why we said there was no need for them to picket at the Ministry of Health.”

The Minister mentioned that government is currently working on their employment and in due time they will be posted to their various stations to work.
