Paramount Chief of Bongo Traditional Area, Naba Baba Salifu Lemyaarum, has observed that actions and inactions of political leaders have a tendency to retrogress the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

According to him although the scheme was born out of political will, political actions on the part of managers of the scheme and the public at large poses a threat for the sustainability of the scheme.

“NHIS has come to stay so let us all put at the back of our minds, our political affiliations, let us work for the betterment of Ghana, for the betterment of our people to ensure that this scheme does not receive any failure” he said.

Naba Lemyaarum said this during a 2017 end of year performance review meeting of the National Health Insurance Authority held in Bolgatanga.

Naba Lemyaarum who described the NHIS as an engine of health service delivery in the country, commended erstwhile President John Agyekum Kuffour administration for introducing the policy.
