
Upper East Regional Minister, Alhaji Limuna Mohammed-Muniru has said that payment of realistic salaries and provision of accommodation for teachers among others are some of the NDC government’s key interventions to ensure comfort for teachers in the country. This he said, will motivate teachers to give off their best towards improving education in Ghana.
Alhaji Muniru was speaking at the launch of the 60th anniversary celebrations of the Gbewaa College of Education at Pusiga here in the Upper East Region.
Established in 1953, the Gbewaa College of Education has produced some of the best teachers in Ghana especially in the Upper East Region, some of who have become politically leaders today.
Among them are current MP for Pusiga, Hajia Laaadi Ayamba, DCE for the Nabdam district, Vivian Anafo, DCE for Talensi district, Edaward Awonore and National Chairman of the NDC, Dr. Kwabena Adjei.
Speaking at the launch of the 60th Anniversary Celebrations of the Gbewaa College of Education, Principal of the college, Pastor Luke Abugri said despite the numerous achievements made by the college, it faces a lot of infrastructural challenges. He mentioned the absence of a fenced wall which makes the campus insecure and lack of accommodation for teachers as some of the challenges.
Upper East Regional Minister, Alhaji Limuna Mohammed-Muniru who was the guest of honor at the event, said the NDC government realizes the important roles teachers play in the education sector and has put some interventions in place to motivate them.
 MP for Pusiga, Hajia Laadi Ayamba who is also an old student of the school and chairperson for the school’s council expressed her pride in being a professional teacher, trained at the Gbewaa college education and entreated the students to be proud of the teaching profession.
The theme for the 60th Anniversary Celebrations Of The Gbewaa College Of Education is: “Gbewaa College At 60: The Journey To Tertiary Status And Beyond”.
