U/E: Lawyer Namoo leads NPP

A private legal practitioner based in Boolgatanga, Lawyer Anthony Namoo was on Saturday elected as the Upper East Regional chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP). Mr. Namoo obtained 124 votes to beat the incumbent chairman, Mohammed Murtala Ibrahim, who polled 51 votes placing third after first-time seeker of the position, Mr. Filson Awankua, who obtained 88.

The new chairman with his other elected executives were sworn into office at teachers’ hall in Bolgatanga where the elections were peacefully held under the supervision of the Electoral Commission and will steer the affairs of the party in the region for the next four years.

The incumbent regional organizer, Jerry Asamani retained his position while Latif Solomon Yenah also beat four other contenders including the incumbent to become the Youth Organizer.

Then Deputy Women’s Organizer, Ayamba Georgina also beat five others to become the Regional Women’s Organizer.
