President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appealed to the Navrongo Traditional Council to use peaceful processes in choosing the next paramount chief for area. The president made the call last Friday when he attended the final funeral rites of the late Paramount chief of Navrongo traditional area, Navro Pio, Pe Asagipare I, known in private life as Dr. Augustine Atudiku Balinia Adda.

The president paid glowing tribute to the late chief who was born on 4th December, 1936 and was enskinned as the chief of Navrongo in 1972 and described him as a “remarkable modern chief who brought a lot of reputation to the Kassena-Nankana area.”

“He was a Ghanaian patriot that gave a lot to the development of his area and Ghana, and  such men when they pass must be remembered  by those of us alive, so that they know that those whose work hard for the progress and development of our country will be honored when they go to meet the almighty God.”

He died in September 2015 after reigning for over 40 years.

During his working life, Dr. Balinia Adda served on various Boards starting with Ghana State Farms Cooperation in 1973; he entered into farming with a focus to improve agriculture to enhance nutritional sufficiency within his Traditional Area, Upper Region and Ghana at large. Through his instrumentality, the Tono Irrigation Project came to a realization as he ensured a very smooth resettlement of persons affected by the project.

President Nana Akufo-Addo, appealed to the kingmakers of the traditional council to peacefully get a replacement for the late chief. “I take the opportunity to ask that, now that he has gone, the traditional ruler who fought for four decades for peace, tranquility and stability to his area, the elders of Navrongo will peacefully choose a successor who will also be a peace-maker and a developer of the area,” President Akufo-Addo said.

A high-powered delegation from the Ashanti kingdom, led by Otumfuo Sumankwahene III, Baffoe Asabre was there to grace the funeral. Upper East Regional Minister, Rockson Ayine Bukari, Navrongo Member of Parliament, Joseph Kofi Adda, Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Hajia Alima Mahama, former Upper East Regional Minister, Mark Woyongo and Ghana’s Ambassador to Italy, Paulina Patience Abayage were all present.
