Most teachers at the Ayuusiyine Junior High School in the Kalbeo Community of Sherigu here in the Bolgatanga Municipality, commute daily from Bolgatanga to the school, a distance of about 3 kilometers.
This has always affected teaching and learning in the school because the teachers were often late in commencing lessons.
In order to forestall this problem, a four-unit teacher’s accommodation facility funded by the district development fund of the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly was on Wednesday commissioned in Kalbeo.
The project which cost Ninety-nine Thousand, One Hundred and Seven Ghana Cedis is expected to attract teachers to stay in the community, strengthen their relations with the community members and deliver quality basic education in the community.
The Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Akwasi Oppong-Fosu who commissioned the project entreated the assembly as well as community members to practice regular maintenance of the teachers’ quarters in order to sustain it.
In a speech read on his behalf, the Chief of Sherigu, Naba Apasinaba Thomas II reminded government of a promise made by Late President Mills to the people of Sherigu to tar the Sherigu-Naaga road.
