The Bolgatanga Municipal Police Command says rumour making round in Bolgatanga that the police officer who was assaulted last week has died is not true.

Municipal Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Samuel Punobyin who dismissed the rumour Wednesday evening, told A1 NEWS the officer though has been discharged; has been referred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for further treatment.

“No, no, no, this is a rumour. It started yesterday. Hmm my brother, yesterday we had to rush to the hospital and it was not true.” Chief Supt. Punobyin said.

Meanwhile, the man standing trial for allegedly assaulting General Corporal Lawrence Partey is expected to make his second appearance at the Magistrate’s Court in Bolgatanga today.

Jonathan Atua was arrested last Friday, a day after the incident occurred and was granted police inquiry bail on Sunday. He was however remanded into prison custody on Monday when he made his first appearance and was charged with causing harm to a public officer, a charge he pleaded not guilty to.
