Despite neglects by successive governments to equip various Vocational Institutions in the country leading to some of them being at the stage of shutting down due to lack of students and learning materials, the Bolgatanga Vocational Training Institute is still thriving to be the leading Vocational Institution in the Region.

In view of that, the Institute on Thursday, November 29, graduated 37 female students after they have undergone one year training in solar installation and motor cycle repairs otherwise known as auto-mechanic. This is the first of its kind in the Region.

Speaking exclusive with some of the graduates on A1 NEWS, they admitted that the training they underwent was not easy but believed they have proving the point that, what men can do, women can do it better, and assured that, if they come onto the job market, they will definitely be able to secure themselves with jobs.

Janet Akeeli, a graduate and students’ leader, said the training she and her colleagues underwent despite it difficulties, will give them the opportunity to compete with men as the old adage says “what men can do, women can do it better”.

The Principal of the Institute, Angelina Talata Kunkuri, a product of the Institute, appeals for government’s supports for the Institute.

“I’m a product of this Institute …letting a space be a space, there is no government, not even a politician who has ever stepped foot in this Institute to help us with learning materials or anything capable for teaching, since I became the Principal. The only help we were waiting and yearning for which never came was the one that the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Akufo, last promised to enroll students through the computerized system in the Vocational Institutions. That I know is a nationwide thing, but I sincerely plea for support either from government or anyone, because the Institute needs it the most.” She said.
