LUCK ELUDED a suspected motorbike snatcher on Wednesday in Bolgatanga as he was clubbed and stoned to death by a mob near the National Service flat. The man was said to have attempted to snatch the motorbike from the owner after he had allegedly stopped him on the main Bolgatanga-Navrongo road and between the service flat and the Regional House of Chiefs.

Upon sensing danger, the owner of the bike raised an alarm for help and in a very swift response; passers-by gave the suspect a hot chase and in no time, crabbed and lynched him around 8:00pm.

His body was left on the path linking the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly and the service flat with stones and other offensive objectives surrounding it. Blood was seen oozing from his nose, mouth and ears.

Confirming the incident, the Upper East Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Police Service, ASP Thomas Agbanyo, said the name of the deceased suspect could not be obtained but his body had been deposited at the regional hospital mortuary for autopsy and identification.

According to the PRO, the Regional Police Commander, ACP Simon Yao Afeku has condemned the action of the mob and advised the public not to take the law into their own hands and administer instant justice to suspected criminals.

Meanwhile, residents in the area had complained about the alarming rate of motorbike snatching and vowed to deal with any criminal in the vicinity in their own way because they had lost trust in the Police who they accused of releasing hardened criminals from their custody even when there was enough evidence to prosecute such criminals.
