Before conveying the dead bodies from the Upper East Regional Hospital mortuary on Friday, the Concerned Youth of Talensi held a press conference at the mortuary premises to register their displeasure. In their statement, they stressed that they were still shocked as youth and citizens of Talensi with the continuous loss of their citizens lives recorded since the establishment of Shaanxi Mining Limited.

According to the Vice President of the youth association, Bismark Azumah who read the statement on behalf the youth, said since the Shaanxi Mining Limited started operating a total number of 61 people have died through operations and it is on record that none of these deaths received any compensation.

“Our departed brothers are not illegal miners as put up there by the mining company, Shaanxi. We also want to state that, the community has never seen recommendations from any institution any time there is accident and our search also shows that, the mining company is practicing illegality per the mining act 2019, section 27718 show the composition of foreign partnership ($200,000.00 support from the foreign partner whiles the local partner pays 10% of this. What do we see here? The foreign company Shaanxi has taken over? He question.”

They further accused the company for lacking basic safety practices endangering the lives of their people and no blasting notice in their community to inform their people before blasting.

“No vans to announce any impending blast. The mineral commission also failed to engage the community in a public forum as stipulated in the mining regulations and workers of the company are not insured.”

We want to state it here that, the explosive used on that day contains strong gas, carbon to intentionally kill our people and the community has not seen any plans of Shaanxi and their partners Yenya and Pibotaaba mining groups has and has never perform any cooperate social responsibilities, taken our monies without giving back to the community Why?” He asked

However, the concerned youth, have requested that should there be any prosecution they want the Deputy Attorney General Lawyer Kpemka who happened to be their lawyer some time ago to stay off.

Meanwhile the acting chairman of the Upper East small scale miners association Robert Tampore who spoke with tears, said as a leader is been trying his best calming affected families down in order to avoid some other unforeseen circumstances.
