The Paramount Chief of the Talensi Traditional Area, Tongraan Kugbilsong Nanlebgtang has called on government to address the poor road networks in the various districts which have hindered development for so long.

The Paramount Chief made the call at the just ended “TEMGMAALUG LAONG” festival held in Tongo Saturday, March 2, 2019.

According to him, the main reason why most of the districts in the Upper East Region are still not developed as expected is as a result of bad roads network.

“It is a fact that most of the districts in the Upper East are well resourced with natural resources, and the challenges are, how to transport these resources to the various destinations. I know it is not a one day work by the relevant stakeholders, but I will call on government to work assiduously in providing good road networks to aid smooth accessibility of these resources.” He said.

The Deputy Regional Minister, Frank Fusieni Adongo, who read a speech on behalf of the Regional Minister, Paulina Patience Abayage, encouraged parents and traditional leaders to collaborate with government in the fight against anti-social tendencies which usually rob children off their traditions and cultures.

“The wave of globalization has brought about serious challenges to the protection of our culture which we must be wary and alert of. In the age of technology, children are now more glued to mobile phones, television sets and computers which could expose them to many risks and rob them off valuable time for learning their culture and traditions. I therefore, encourage opinion leaders, parents to collaborate with government in the fight against these anti-social tendencies.” He said.

Meanwhile, the District Chief Executive of Talensi, Dr. Christopher Boatbil also encouraged the people of Talensi to use their unique culture sagaciously in creating employment and elevating poverty as culture is the masterpiece of development in every country.

The “TEMGMAALUG LAONG” festival was marked to honor all the chiefs and people of Talensi and to showcase the unique culture of the land to the whole world. The guests of honor for the occasion were the Regional Minister for Upper East Region, Paulina Patience Abayage, the Deputy Regional Minister, Frank Fusieni Adongo.

Other dignitaries included representatives of the National Peace Council, Regional Director for Tourism, Henry Yeleduor and some leading members of the governing New Patriotic Party.
