Six journalists on Thursday were honored for outstanding reports on agriculture related stories in the 2nd edition of the Harmattan Awards held in Tamale.
In all, four categories were setup for awards namely Radio (English), Radio (Local Language), Print and Television.
However, no entries were received for the TV and Radio (Local Language) category in this second edition.
The Harmattan Awards scheme was instituted by Countrywise Communication, a multimedia corporate organization working towards promoting agriculture and rural development in Ghana.
Executive Director of Countrywise Communications Raymond Vuol in an address at the recently held award ceremony said the award scheme aims at whipping the interest of journalists to report on agriculture related stories.
He further disclosed the establishment of a fund to stimulate the interest of journalists and support them to report on various sectors of agriculture.
“I wish to announce that Countrywise Communication will soon implement two other components of the Harmattan Awards scheme which is the Training for Journalists where there would be training periodically for our journalists by various industry players. Also is the establishment of Development Journalism Fund where you as development journalists can apply for your projects as well as students journalists. In all these we would count on your support” he added.
Winners in the 2018 edition of the awards for print included Eric Kombat of the Daily Guide Newspaper (2nd Runner Up), Samuel Sam of B&FT (1st Runner Up) while Prosper K. Kuorsoh of GNA won best journalist for the print category.
For Radio category, Yahaya Masahudu of Radio Tamale came in the 2nd Runner up position. The 1st Runner up position went to Salifu Wunonuo of Radio Wa while the ultimate prize for Radio went to Philip Bangyiliko Tengzu of Radio Mak in Wa.
The awardees received citations, plagues Laptops and Zoom recorders.
