Workers in the country on the celebration of May Day parade demanded better condition of service in order to meet the national minimum wage.
Upper East Regional Secretary of Trade Union Congress (TUC), Augustine Adongo Apambila bemoaned that some Ghanaian workers both formal and informal sector are paid about GHc 270 per month. This he said infringes upon the fundamental human right of workers and thereby denies them a better living after retirement.
While calling on government to step in to provide a safe working condition for workers Mr. Apambila lamented that some female workers mostly in the public sector have been denied their reproductive rights due to the contract agreement that binds their work.
Upper East Regional Minister, Paulina Patience Abayage indicated that government is committed to synchronize pensions in the country geared towards making all workers happy and comfortable.
Some gallant workers in the region were given awards in recognition of their hard work with Alhaji Chief Mahamadu Azonko, Upper East Regional Coordinator Director receiving an overall best award. He took home a washing machine.
