The opposition National Democratic Congress in the Upper East Region has described the 1 village 1 dam policy under President Akufo Addo and Vice President Bawumia as a corrupt and shoddy project.

At a press conference held at the Bolgatanga East District office of the party on Thursday, the Upper East Regional Communication Officer of the party Ahmed Saeed Tijani said the 1V1D policy was one of the many grandiose promises made by then candidate Akufo-Addo to the people of the Upper East region, for which the people rewarded him with a resounding victory in the 2016 general elections.

Mr. Ahmed Saeed Tijani added that though 40 villages in all are experiencing some form of activity in the name of 1V1D, the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government is yet to construct a single small scale irrigation dam through their 1V1D policy in the Upper East Region describing the supposed dams as dugouts or excavated ponds.

The party believes the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government has failed in fulfilling its promise and called on the special prosecutor Mr. Martin Amidu to initiate criminal investigations into what they described as shoddily constructed dugouts.
