The Kassena-Nankana Municipal and Kassena-Nankana West District Assemblies in the Upper East Region have added into their Medium Term Development Plan (MTDP) a clean cooking initiative.
The move is geared towards managing the fast depleting forests in the two areas, as a result of felling trees for firewood.
Programs Manager of a local NGO, Organization for Indigenous Initiative and Sustainability (ORGIIS), Clifford Amoah Adagenera revealed this at a workshop for assembly members, traditional leaders and opinion leaders in Navrongo in the Kassena-Nankana Municipality.
Mr. Amoah admonished other assemblies in the region to mainstream clean cooking initiatives in their activities in order to aid the country to achieve some of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
ORGIIS with support from a Dutch Non-Governmental Organization, SNV in its Voice for Change programme, is advocating for the use of improved clean cooking stoves in the country.
