Municipal Chief Executive for Bolgatanga, Joseph Amiyuure has donated metal fabricated dual desk to two schools in Sumbrungu in the Bolgatanga Municipality. The two schools, Sumbrungu and Azorebisi Primary took delivery of 60 furniture each to facilitate effective teaching and learning.

Handing the furniture over to the schools, Mr. Amiyuure said President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo places much priority on education hence, the introduction of free secondary education.

According to Mr. Amiyuure achieving a holistic education at the secondary levels involves quality of education at the basic schools, therefore the donation of the furniture.

The MCE admonished the beneficiary schools to use the furniture for its purposes

“When I resumed office as Municipal Chief Executive, I had the opportunity to move round all the schools to familiarized myself with what was going on in these schools. I realized that furniture was one of the challenges in the schools. So, I have been doing my best to equip the schools with furniture…You are aware the resources are limited, so, it is good that you take good care of the furniture”

Asuriya James, a pupil of Sumbrungu Primary School, on behalf of the school thanked the MCE for the kind gesture. He appealed to the assembly for provision of furniture to the teachers to aid smooth running of academic activities.

Some pupils of these schools until the donation sit on bare floor while others lie prostrate to learn. The situation according to Head teacher of Azorebise, Mercy Titigah contributed to school dropouts.

Madam Titigah while thanking the assembly for the gesture appealed for a Junior High School Block for the school.

“We are so grateful with the intervention; the pupils were lying on the floors until these furniture is donated to us. What we are now appealing for is a JHS since we are the only school in this area without a JHS”

The Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly intends to stock all schools in the municipality with furniture to improve teaching and learning.
